Delicious Whole Peach Mochi

A delightful Japanese dessert combining sweet peaches with chewy mochi, perfect for summer.

  • 1 cup Glutinous rice flour
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/4 cup Sugar
  • 4 pieces Fresh peaches
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar (for peaches)
  • 1 tablespoon Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • 1/4 cup Mochi starch (for dusting and shaping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Peaches: Wash, peel, and slice the peaches, then sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of sugar and let sit.
  2. Make the Mochi Dough: Combine glutinous rice flour and 1/4 cup of sugar, then gradually add warm water and stir until smooth. Cover and rest for 30 minutes.
  3. Cook the Mochi: Steam the mochi batter in a heatproof dish for 20-25 minutes until glossy and translucent.
  4. Shape the Mochi: Dust a clean work surface with mochi starch, turn out the mochi, and roll it into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into 3-inch squares.
  5. Wrap the Peaches: Flatten each mochi square, place a peach slice in the center, and pinch to seal.
  6. Dust and Serve: Dust the mochi with powdered sugar and serve fresh, optionally with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

For best results, use ripe peaches and store mochi in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
