Easy Rugelach Cookies

Delightful crescent-shaped pastries with a flaky texture and rich filling, perfect for gatherings or a snack with coffee.

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or fruit preserves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter, cream cheese, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  3. Gradually mix in the flour and salt until a soft dough forms.
  4. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  5. Prepare the filling by mixing chopped nuts, chocolate chips or fruit preserves, and cinnamon in a bowl.
  6. On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into circles about 1/8 inch thick.
  7. Spread the filling evenly over the dough circles.
  8. Cut the dough into wedges and roll them up starting from the wider end.
  9. Place the rolled cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and brush with egg wash.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and cool on a wire rack.

Notes

Rugelach can be filled with various ingredients such as fruit preserves, chocolate, or nuts. Store in an airtight container to keep fresh.
