Garlic Herb Braided Bread

A flavorful and aromatic bread made with garlic, mixed herbs, and Parmesan cheese, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2.5 cups All-Purpose or Bread Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Active Dry Yeast
  • 1 cup Warm Water
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons Dried Mixed Herbs
  • 0.5 cups Grated Parmesan Cheese (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Melted Butter (for brushing on top)

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: Combine warm water and sugar in a medium bowl, stir, then sprinkle yeast over the mixture. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbly.
  2. Mix the Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center, add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil, garlic, and herbs (and cheese if using). Stir until a rough dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let It Rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm spot for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Dough: Punch down the risen dough, divide into three portions, roll into ropes, and braid together, sealing the ends.
  6. Second Rise: Place the braided bread on a lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 30-45 minutes while preheating the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Brush and Bake: Brush with melted butter, bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  8. Cool and Enjoy: Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
