Ghoul-Gheroni and Cheese

A spooky twist on classic macaroni and cheese, perfect for Halloween gatherings or a fun family activity.

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Halloween-themed food coloring (optional)
  • Bread crumbs for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the gheroni pasta according to the package instructions, adding salt to the boiling water. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and stir in the flour, cooking for about 2 minutes to create a roux.
  3. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens (about 5-7 minutes).
  4. Reduce heat to low and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Add Halloween-themed food coloring if desired, mixing until evenly distributed.
  6. Combine the cooked gheroni with the cheese sauce, stirring well.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish, topping with bread crumbs if using.
  8. Bake for about 20 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown.
  9. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes
