Hearty Cheddar and Herb Soda Bread

A comforting and quick soda bread loaded with cheddar cheese and fresh herbs, perfect for any meal.

  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • ½ cup Fresh Chives
  • 1 tbsp Fresh Thyme
  • 1 tbsp Fresh Rosemary
  • 1 tbsp Fresh Sage
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese, grated
  • 1½ cups Buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt together.
  4. Finely chop the chives, thyme, rosemary, and sage and mix them into the dry ingredients.
  5. Add the grated cheddar cheese to the flour mixture and fold gently.
  6. In another bowl, combine the buttermilk and pour it into the well of the dry ingredients, mixing until a sticky dough forms.
  7. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead for about a minute.
  8. Shape the dough into a round loaf and transfer it to the baking sheet. Score the top with a knife.
  9. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  10. Cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For best results, use fresh herbs and avoid overmixing the dough.
