Homemade Halva

A creamy and nutty homemade halva made from tahini, perfect for sharing or indulging yourself.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 cups tahini (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon black sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Gather all the ingredients on your countertop.
  2. Make the Syrup: In a medium saucepan, combine sugar and water, heating over medium until the sugar dissolves (about 5 minutes). Cook for another 5 minutes without stirring.
  3. Mix Tahini and Flavorings: In a large bowl, mix tahini, vanilla extract, and kosher salt until smooth.
  4. Combine Syrup with Tahini: Carefully pour the syrup into the tahini mixture while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
  5. Add Black Sesame Seeds: Gently fold in black sesame seeds, if using.
  6. Transfer to a Mold: Pour the mixture into a mold lined with parchment paper, smoothing the top.
  7. Let It Cool: Cool at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours until firm.
  8. Slice and Serve: Remove from the mold, slice into squares, and serve with tea or coffee.

Notes

Use fresh tahini for better flavor and control the sweetness by adjusting the sugar amount.
