Monte Cristo French Toast Casserole

A delightful blend of sweet and savory flavors, this casserole combines ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese wrapped in French toast, perfect for brunch or cozy breakfast gatherings.

  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup honey ham, diced
  • 1 cup turkey, diced
  • 1 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • Powdered sugar (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  3. Cut the loaf of French bread into 1-inch cubes and spread evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, ensuring they are well-soaked.
  6. Sprinkle diced honey ham and turkey over the soaked bread, then top with shredded Swiss cheese.
  7. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and melted butter; drizzle over the casserole.
  8. Cover with foil and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  9. Remove from refrigerator, let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes, then bake covered for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving, dust with powdered sugar.
