Monte Cristo French Toast Casserole

A delightful casserole combining the flavors of a classic Monte Cristo sandwich with the texture of French toast, perfect for breakfast or brunch.

  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into cubes
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup honey ham, diced
  • 1 cup turkey, diced
  • 1 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Powdered sugar for serving (optional)
  • Maple syrup for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Layer half of the bread cubes in the baking dish, then add half of the ham, turkey, and cheese.
  5. Pour half of the custard mixture over the layers.
  6. Repeat the layering with the remaining bread, ham, turkey, and cheese.
  7. Mix the brown sugar and melted butter, then drizzle over the casserole.
  8. Bake for 45-55 minutes or until golden brown and set.
  9. Let cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with maple syrup if desired.

Notes

For added flavor, prepare the casserole the night before and refrigerate overnight.
