Savory Oyster Dressing

A delightful dressing combining tender oysters with herby bread, perfect for holiday meals.

  • 1 rib Celery (chopped)
  • 1 small Onion (chopped)
  • 1/2 cup Butter (cubed)
  • 3 cups Day-old bread (cubed)
  • 1/4 cup Fresh parsley (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon Poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Rubbed sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon Pepper
  • 1 large Egg (beaten)
  • 1 cup Chicken broth
  • 1 cup Shucked oysters (drained and coarsely chopped)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients: Chop the celery and onion, cube the bread, and chop the oysters.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat, add the celery and onion, and sauté for 5-7 minutes.
  3. Mix in Bread and Herbs: Combine sautéed vegetables with bread, parsley, poultry seasoning, sage, and pepper in a bowl.
  4. Add Oysters: Gently fold in the chopped oysters.
  5. Prepare Chicken Broth and Egg Mixture: Whisk together beaten egg and chicken broth in a separate bowl.
  6. Combine Thoroughly: Pour egg and broth mixture over bread mixture and combine well.
  7. Transfer to Baking Dish: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C), grease a baking dish, and transfer the mixture.
  8. Bake the Dressing: Bake for about 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Cool and Serve: Allow to cool slightly before serving.
