Thai Basil Fried Rice

A delightful dish that combines the fragrant aroma of fresh basil with hearty fried rice, chicken, and colorful mixed vegetables.

  • 2 cups cooked jasmine rice
  • 1 cup chicken, diced
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, bell peppers)
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: chili flakes or fresh chilies for heat

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add the diced chicken and cook until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Toss in the mixed vegetables and stir-fry until tender-crisp, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add the cooked jasmine rice and pour in the soy sauce and oyster sauce, mixing well.
  6. Stir in the fresh basil leaves and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  7. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper, and add chili flakes if desired.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil or a fried egg, if desired.

Notes

For best results, use day-old rice to prevent mushiness. Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
