Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • Cream cheese frosting (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another large bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring, mixing until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until a dough forms.
  6. Scoop out portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are set and the centers are still soft.
  8. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Top each cookie with cream cheese frosting before serving.

Notes

For best results, ensure butter and egg are at room temperature and do not overmix after adding dry ingredients.
