Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 4 large ripe tomatoes, diced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 baguette or Italian bread, sliced into 1/2-inch pieces
  • Optional: grated Parmesan cheese for garnish

Method

Instructions
  1. In a medium bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chopped basil, minced garlic, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. Stir gently to mix all the ingredients. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  2. While the tomato mixture is resting, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the sliced baguette or Italian bread on a baking sheet. Lightly brush each slice with olive oil and toast in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until the edges are golden and crisp.
  3. Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly. Spoon the tomato mixture generously onto each slice of bread. If desired, sprinkle a bit of grated Parmesan cheese on top for added flavor.
  4. Bruschetta is best served fresh while the bread is still crispy. Arrange the slices on a platter and garnish with additional basil leaves for a beautiful presentation.

Notes

Choose ripe tomatoes for the best flavor. Toast the bread until crisp to prevent sogginess. The tomato mixture can be prepared ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
