Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 8-10 chicken drumsticks (about 3-4 pounds)
  • 1 cup your favorite BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup chicken broth or water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (optional, for thicker sauce)

Method

Instructions
  1. Pat the chicken drumsticks dry with paper towels. In a small bowl, mix together the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Rub this seasoning mixture evenly over all sides of the drumsticks.
  2. Pour the chicken broth or water into the bottom of your crockpot. Arrange the seasoned drumsticks in a single layer, making sure they're not overcrowded. If you need to stack them, place the larger drumsticks on the bottom.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the BBQ sauce, olive oil, and brown sugar. Pour this mixture over the chicken, making sure each drumstick gets coated. Use a brush or spoon to spread the sauce evenly.
  4. Cover and cook on LOW for 6-7 hours or HIGH for 3-4 hours. The chicken is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F and the meat easily pulls away from the bone.
  5. If you prefer a thicker BBQ sauce, remove the chicken and keep warm. Mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water, then stir into the cooking liquid. Cook on HIGH for 15-20 minutes until thickened.

Notes

Pat chicken dry before seasoning for better browning, layer larger drumsticks on bottom for even cooking, use meat thermometer to check doneness at 165°F, let chicken rest 5-10 minutes before serving for juicier results.
