Instructions
- Pat the chicken drumsticks dry with paper towels. In a small bowl, mix together the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Rub this seasoning mixture evenly over all sides of the drumsticks.
- Pour the chicken broth or water into the bottom of your crockpot. Arrange the seasoned drumsticks in a single layer, making sure they're not overcrowded. If you need to stack them, place the larger drumsticks on the bottom.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the BBQ sauce, olive oil, and brown sugar. Pour this mixture over the chicken, making sure each drumstick gets coated. Use a brush or spoon to spread the sauce evenly.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 6-7 hours or HIGH for 3-4 hours. The chicken is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F and the meat easily pulls away from the bone.
- If you prefer a thicker BBQ sauce, remove the chicken and keep warm. Mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water, then stir into the cooking liquid. Cook on HIGH for 15-20 minutes until thickened.
Notes
Pat chicken dry before seasoning for better browning, layer larger drumsticks on bottom for even cooking, use meat thermometer to check doneness at 165°F, let chicken rest 5-10 minutes before serving for juicier results.
