Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes with an electric mixer).
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts (if using) until evenly distributed.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and centers are set but still soft.
- Let cookies cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
Notes
Don't overmix the dough - mix just until ingredients are combined. Use softened butter (not melted) for optimal texture. For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking. Bake one sheet at a time in the center rack for even cooking.
