Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 9-11 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Use room temperature butter for optimal creaming with sugars. Don't overmix to avoid tough cookies. For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking. Use a cookie scoop for uniformly sized cookies. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
