Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 4 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well), peeled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch or arrowroot powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup almond flour
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of sea salt

Method

Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice to prevent browning. Add maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, and vanilla extract. Mix thoroughly until apples are evenly coated.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine rolled oats, almond flour, chopped nuts, cinnamon, and sea salt. Drizzle in melted coconut oil and maple syrup, then mix until the ingredients form a crumbly texture. The mixture should hold together when pressed but still be loose.
  3. Transfer the apple mixture to a greased 8x8 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples, covering them completely. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
  4. Allow the crumble to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving. This resting time helps the filling set and makes it easier to serve. Enjoy warm with a dollop of Greek yogurt or a splash of milk.

Notes

Mix tart and sweet apples for balanced flavor. Assemble the night before and bake in the morning for quick breakfast. Don't overmix the topping - crumbles should be irregular for best texture. Store leftovers up to 3 days.
