Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Pat the chicken drumsticks dry with paper towels – this helps the seasoning stick better and promotes browning. Place the drumsticks in a large bowl.
- Drizzle the olive oil over the chicken drumsticks. In a small bowl, mix together salt, black pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and onion powder. Sprinkle this seasoning mixture evenly over the drumsticks, rubbing it into the skin to ensure even coverage.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the BBQ sauce, honey, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke (if using), apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar. This creates the perfect sweet and smoky glaze that will caramelize beautifully in the oven.
- Place the seasoned drumsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil (for easy cleanup). Arrange them in a single layer with space between each drumstick to allow for even cooking. Bake for 25 minutes.
- After 25 minutes, remove the drumsticks from the oven. Brush each drumstick generously with the BBQ glaze, making sure to coat all sides. Return to the oven and bake for another 15-20 minutes.
- Brush with another layer of glaze and switch your oven to broil. Broil for 2-3 minutes until the glaze is bubbly and caramelized. Watch carefully to prevent burning!
- Remove from oven and let the drumsticks rest for 5 minutes before serving. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, ensuring maximum tenderness.
Notes
For extra crispy skin, place drumsticks on a wire rack over the baking sheet. Marinate drumsticks in dry seasoning overnight for deeper flavor. Use meat thermometer to ensure internal temperature reaches 165°F. Add hot sauce for sweet heat or Dijon mustard for tangy twist.
