Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Toss until the apples are well coated. Pour the apple mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and remaining sugar. Gradually stir in the melted butter and milk until just combined; the batter will be lumpy.
Gently pour the batter over the apple mixture in the baking dish. Do not stir. The batter will rise and create a topping while baking.
Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
Allow the cobbler to cool for about 10 minutes before serving. This dish is delightful on its own or topped with ice cream.
