Bananas Foster with Pecans & Caramel

A classic New Orleans dessert featuring warm bananas, sweet caramel, and crunchy pecans, served over ice cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ripe bananas
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup dark rum (optional)
  • Ice cream (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter, being careful not to brown it.
  2. Add brown sugar to the melted butter and stir until dissolved, creating a caramel base.
  3. Slice the ripe bananas into thick pieces.
  4. Add the sliced bananas to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until caramelized.
  5. Stir in chopped pecans and vanilla extract.
  6. If desired, add dark rum carefully and flambé, allowing flames to subside.
  7. Lower the heat and simmer the mixture for a minute or two to combine flavors.
  8. Serve the warm banana mixture generously over scoops of ice cream.

Notes

For best results, serve immediately while warm. Add extra pecans or caramel sauce for garnish.
