Creepy Shepherd’s Pie

A delightful twist on a classic shepherd’s pie, perfect for Halloween with a spooky touch and nutritious ingredients.

  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup peas
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Black olives (for spooky eyes, optional)
  • Green food coloring (optional for styling)
  • Parmesan cheese (for sprinkling on top, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or lamb until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add onion, carrots, and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Add peas, tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir and let simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish and spread evenly.
  6. Spread the mashed potatoes over the meat mixture, smoothing it out.
  7. For added creepiness, mix in green food coloring into the mashed potatoes.
  8. Use black olives to create spooky designs on top of the mashed potatoes.
  9. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top if desired.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  11. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
